Negative effects
Some common side effects include a temporary chalky taste or feel, constipation, diarrhea, increased thirst and stomach cramps. Most of these side effects are common and usually do not cause any serious problems or medical complications. Some people may be allergic to aluminum, calcium or magnesium which are ingredients commonly found in Rolaids. People with an allergy to any of these ingredients should not use Rolaids as it may lead to negative effects. If the user has appendicitis or an inflamed bowel, using Rolaids will trigger vomiting, abdominal or stomach pain, bloating, and soreness. Generally, Rolaids are safe to use but if the stomach upset is not cured in two weeks, the user should cease the use of Rolaids and consult a doctor immediately (Casco, n.d.). If you use Rolaids too often or in high doses, it may weaken your teeth because antacids can prevent the absorption of calcium and protein—both vital components for improving the strength of your teeth and jaw (Chaffin Dental Care, 2013).
